Lignin-based Materials Development and Manufacturing according to SSbD principles
On October 1, 2025, Professor Gerard Fernando (University of Birmingham) and Ghada Targorti (Edelweiss Connect) presented the work carried out on the BioPhenom project related to “Lignin-based Materials Development and Manufacturing according to SSbD principles”.

The webinar consisted of three interrelated themes. The first part of the talk focused on the development and on-site demonstration of an environmentally friendly filament winding (EFFW) technique for producing fibre-reinforced pipes and pressure vessels. The second part addressed the production of carbonised nano-fibres using two classes of naturally occurring biopolymers, namely, lignin and tannin. Finally, the application of Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) methodology to Lignin- and Tannin-based materials was covered.
